Overview
The Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple is one of Varanasi’s most revered shrines, dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the remover of troubles (Sankat Mochan). Founded in the 16th century by Goswami Tulsidas, the author of Ramcharitmanas, the temple is known for its simple, powerful devotion and a belief that sincere prayers here help overcome obstacles, fears, and life’s challenges.

What to Except
Stepping into the Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple feels like entering a sanctuary of raw spiritual power amidst the chaos of Varanasi. The environment is thick with the scent of incense, fresh marigolds, and the sweet aroma of pure ghee Besan Ladoos. Despite the lively presence of the temple's famous monkeys and the bustling crowds of devotees, there is an underlying peace—a deep, grounding "feel" of protection that only the presence of Mahabali Bajarangbali can provide.

Things To Do
A visit to this temple is incomplete without participating in the rhythmic chanting that fills the air. Two prayers hold supreme importance here:
Hanuman Chalisa: Written by Tulsidas himself, these 40 verses are a glorious tribute to the strength and devotion of Bajarangbali. Reciting the Hanuman Chalisa within the temple premises is said to multiply its spiritual benefits, providing courage and mental peace.
Sankat Mochan Hanuman Ashtak: This eight-verse hymn is specifically chanted to remove life's obstacles. It invokes the "Mahabali" aspect of Sankat Mochan Hanuman, providing a spiritual shield against personal and health challenges.
For your convenience, prayer books are available throughout the temple premises for devotees to use. We kindly request that you return them to their designated places after reading to maintain the sanctity and order of the temple.
