The Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple is one of Varanasi’s most revered shrines, dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the remover of troubles (Sankat Mochan). Founded in the 16th century by Goswami Tulsidas, the author of Ramcharitmanas, the temple is known for its simple, powerful devotion and a belief that sincere prayers here help overcome obstacles, fears, and life’s challenges.
Visitor Tips
The temple is usually crowded on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Temple usually closed between 12:00 Noon and 3:00 PM.
Offerings: Laddoos, bananas, and sindoor—avoid feeding monkeys.
Footwear: Must be removed outside the temple.
Dress modestly: Respectful attire is advised.
Photography: Not allowed inside the temple premises.
