Overview

Kedar Ghat is one of the most revered and spiritually charged ghats of Varanasi, closely associated with Lord Shiva (Kedarnath). The ghat is named after the Kedareshwar Temple, which enshrines a replica of the Kedarnath Jyotirlinga. Known for its sacred bathing steps, South Indian (especially Tamil) pilgrim presence, and calm atmosphere, Kedar Ghat blends devotion, tradition, and river life beautifully.

Unlike the busier Dashashwamedh Ghat, Kedar Ghat offers a more serene and contemplative experience, making it a favorite for spiritual seekers and photographers.

Visitor Tips

Best time to visit: Early morning (5:00–7:30 AM) for ritual bathing and calm vibes. Temple etiquette: Remove footwear before entering the Kedareshwar Temple. Dress modestly: Especially if planning to bathe or enter temples. Photography: Allowed, but avoid photographing people during private rituals. Boat rides: Ideal stop during sunrise or heritage boat tours. Less crowded: Prefer this ghat if you want a peaceful alternative to major ghats.
